Hunting

✧ Hunting

These are the hunting rules that uphold the realism of our fantasy semi-realism server. Here you will find how to hunt, when to hunt, and how the body down rules work. Hunting is allowed at 60% hunger or below by default. Doing so within Line of Sight (LOS) of another body down is not allowed unless it is glitched/blocked or an unclaimed Tier 1 body.
These rules make hunting not just about killing, but help make it a fun and tense experience with battles between life and death.

Who can hunt and when?

Hunting is allowed for any dinosaur capable of consuming meat when their hunger is at 60% or lower.

Hunting within LoS of another body is not allowed unless it is either an unclaimed Tier 1 body or glitched/inaccessible (e.g. deeply submerged in water, on a cliff where you can't get to it).

At least one pack member must be the correct hunger to initiate a hunt. That member doesn't need to start the hunt.

Once a body drops during a hunt, it belongs to the party that started the hunt, regardless of who died, to ensure fairness.

During a disaster, combat and hunting in shelter/caves is not allowed as long as you stay in that cave, being inside right before it hits and after it hits to heal.

  • 🌟 Tip! To check your hunger and thirst, use the !info command; the bot will whisper you the stats in Global!

Hunt Timer and Failed Hunts

A hunt is considered failed when a target is not killed before the combat timer has ended, or a member of the hunting party dies. The target player or group can't be attacked for 30 minutes once the combat timer expires.

ο»ΏIf a hunt is successful, the 30min cooldown does not apply; it only applies to failed hunts.

Revenge Killing and Pack Hunting

Revenge killing or swapping to another dinosaur to harass a player/party in game is not allowed.

When you kill another player, you will receive a whisper telling you the name of the person you have killed.

When you get killed by a solo player, you will receive a whisper telling you the name of the player and their hunger percentage.

When killed by a pack, you will receive a whisper of the person that killed you, their hunger percentage, the name of the person with the lowest hunger in the group, along with their hunger.

Hunting Hunger

Keep in mind, if you get killed by a pack, another party member may have been the correct hunger, even if it shows an incorrect hunger of the one that had killed you, because only one group member needs to have 60% or less hunger to hunt.

✧ Body Down

Body Down (BD) represents player corpses that have died during a hunt, natural causes, or other reasons. To ensure fairness and avoid unnecessary killing, it is not allowed to hunt within Line of Sight (LoS) of a BD.

What's allowed when you have a BD claimed?

The owner of a body can be either the one who killed the target, successfully contested and won, or just found it abandoned.

Body owners must defend their body from scavengers. They can not let them eat/scavenge freely from it; this is counted as mixpacking. No aggro call is needed to attack scavengers that attempt to scavenge within the range of 1 Spino length around the BD.

Players can choose to stay with their BD if they wish, until they get contested off it or it despawns. However, if the BD is left unattended (e.g. owner leaves to get a drink), it can be claimed by another party and must be contested for.

What is not allowed?

Hunting within LoS of a BD is not allowed. Be careful of your surroundings if multiple packs are hunting at the same time because once a body drops, other fights within LoS must stop immediately.

Chunking a BD is not allowed. This means ripping out meat chunks and not eating them, which makes the body despawn faster.

Glitched or inaccessible bodies may be ignored.

AI corpses do not count as body down unless it’s an argent body.

Tier 1 Bodies

Tier 1 bodies are excluded from BD rules only when unclaimed.

If a Tier 1 body drops during a contest or hunt (as either the intended target or a hunting party casualty), regular rules apply.

If there is a claimed Tier 1 body within LoS, it cannot be ignored.

✧ Contesting

Contesting comes into play when another party wants to take over a claimed body down (BD). To avoid unfairness to the body owner, these rules ensure that both parties have time to act by either forfeiting or fighting. Players must wait 30 seconds before contesting a body they see drop and when another party has won a contest.
Both herbivores and carnivores can contest any resources they eat. Carnivores contest corpses/player bodies while herbivores may contest for berry bushes, melons, etc.

When To Contest

For herbivores, replace "body" with edible resource.

Only T2+ bodies count as BD; T1 bodies can be ignored.

You can't contest what you can't hunt. If you are considered a Pest, for example, you cannot contest what you are excluded from hunting.

Only 1 dinosaur/pack may contest at a time.

To contest for a body, approach 1 Spino length away from the owner and aggro call 3x.

Combat can start sooner if the owner aggro calls back during your 3 calls.

The contest ends when the body owner or a contestant dies, or if one of the involved parties fully forfeits.

When you see a body drop, you must wait 30 seconds before initiating a contest. This also applies when you see that another party has successfully contested a body. This is explained in the Combat And Timer rules.

After a failed contest, that party may not be contested again for 30 minutes. This is not the same as failed hunt timer.

Forfeiting A Contest

When a contestant moves more than 2 Spino lengths away from the body, they auto forfeit and may not rejoin the fight.

The body owner(s) may only chase off contestants up to 2 Spino lengths away from the body.

✧ Combat And Timer

Combat is when 2 parties engage in anything that triggers the combat timer, such as a hunt, territory, spar, or contest. This is shown by the red eye symbol that pops up with a cool down at the bottom of your screen. This said timer is not protecting you from getting attacked outside of combat; only active fights do. This means that even if this timer is running on your screen and you're sitting somewhere to heal after some form of combat, then others may still attack you if they see you as an easy meal.

What Is a Combat Timer?

The combat timer appears when you take damage, like during a hunt.

If the timer drops to 0 and the target is still alive, the hunt is considered a failure and the hunting party may not attack that player/group again for 30 minutes.

If someone clearly charges or swipes at you, you may strike first; you don't need to wait for them to trigger your combat timer beforehand to preemptively protect yourself.

Attempted strikes or lunges count as that party initiating a hunt regardless if the attack lands. If someone clearly intends to fight but misses, it counts as starting combat.

What doesn't count/isn't allowed in combat?

Aggro calls alone are not a reason to attack first due to lack of context. They could mean a territory, spar, etc.

Tag-teaming, the act of switching out group members during active combat, is not allowed.

Meshing, the act of hitting through or hiding your body in rocks, the ground, walls, etc. to unrealistically inflict or avoid damage is not allowed.

Do not push/clamp to glitch users out of bounds. Body blocking, however, is a valid hunting strategy that players can do during combat. This does not apply to parties that are not involved in the combat.

Teleporting (TP), logging, or fleeing into a Home Cave mid fight or when obviously being hunted is not allowed. Players are not allowed to utilize these methods to escape being hunted.

Anything that can't dive or not classified as semi-aquatic/aquatic is not allowed to intentionally die in water. Being dragged or pushed inside water and then dying does not count as intentional.

You are allowed to cross water in an attempt to escape a hunt, but you may not use it to bypass the combat timer; this applies to terrestrials and fliers.

  • 🌟 Tip! Keep an eye on your stamina during combat! If you are not confident that you can cross water without risking drowning, try to find another escape route!
✧ Third Party

Third partying (3P/3rd party) is strictly forbidden in our server. Not only is it very annoying, it also inflicts unfair disadvantages/advantages to the parties involved. 3rd Party counts when players join a fight without being grouped and interrupt gameplay such as hunts/contests/territory. It is important that when a 3P happens, both initial parties stop combat immediately. If one of them doesn't, it will count as mixpacking for allowing the 3rd partying member(s) to help them in a fight. The 3rd party member(s) may be killed if they do not disengage by the parties originally in combat, and the initial fight can continue if applicable once the 3rd party BD is gone.
The BD that drops belongs to the party that initiated the fight at the beginning, following BD rules. This does not count as a failed hunt and the other party may still be hunted when the BD despawns.
There are a few species profiles that are allowed to 3rd party, so make sure to read through profiles.

Quick Bullet Points

3rd party is not allowed.

You may join a group mid fight to help, if you can and are allowed to group up with that species, but it is important that you group up via in-game system before you join that fight.

If you are not involved in a fight, you must stay 1-2 Spino lengths away and not get in the way.

Using buff/debuff calls when not grouped counts as 3rd Party.

✧ Spawn Killing

Spawn killing is not against the rules here in Elys. It is the player's duty to make sure they logout in a safe spot to avoid spawning when there are predators around, especially in high traffic areas. Once you spawn into the server, you are at the mercy of other players.

Quick Bullet Points

Spawn killing is allowed as long as hunting or territory requirements are met. However, killing on sight (KoS) just because a player spawned is forbidden.

Remember, it is your responsibility as the player to log out safely.

Group Sizes

✧ Group Sizes

Group sizes define how many dinosaurs per tier are allowed to group up. This ensures that there aren't any megapacks of carnivores roaming around, providing better balancing and fair gameplay. Herbivores may have unlimited herd sizes but their defensive members limit is the designated group tier limit listed below.
Only sub-adult and adult dinos count towards these limits.

Tip! Remember that tag-teaming during combat is not allowed!

Max Group Sizes Per Tier:

Tier 1 β†’ 10
Tier 2 β†’ 8
Tier 3 β†’ 4
Tier 4 β†’ 3
Tier 5–6 β†’ 2

✧ Multipliers

Some of our roles allow an extension to grouping limitations. This is most beneficial for carnivores, however this allows herbivores to increase their defense limit, allowing more members to fight back when the herd is attacked.

Tip! Remember that only 1 player with this role is allowed per group.
